What Happens at Your Consultation
Every implant case at ADHP begins the same way: with a thorough, unhurried consultation designed to give us — and you — a complete picture of your oral health and what restoring it will involve. We start by reviewing your medical and dental history in detail. Conditions such as diabetes, immune-suppressing medications, or a history of bone loss can all affect implant outcomes, and we need that information before recommending any course of treatment.
From there, one of our clinicians performs a comprehensive clinical exam of your gums, remaining teeth, and bite. We assess tissue health, check for signs of gum disease that would need to be resolved before placement, and evaluate the alignment of your remaining dentition. We then take CBCT (cone-beam computed tomography) imaging — a 3D scan of your jaw that allows us to measure bone volume and density at the precise location where an implant would be placed, and to identify anatomical structures that must be respected during surgery.
Before you leave, we present a personalized written treatment plan that outlines every recommended procedure, every component involved, and the sequence in which treatment will proceed. Nothing is scheduled until you have reviewed and approved that plan.
What a Complete Implant Includes
A dental implant is a three-part system. The titanium implant post is placed surgically into the jawbone, where it replaces the function of the natural tooth root. Titanium is used because it is biocompatible — over the months following placement, living bone cells bond directly to its surface in a process called osseointegration. Once that bond is confirmed, an abutment is attached to the top of the post; this is the connector piece that links the buried post to the final visible restoration. The crown — custom-fabricated to match the shade and contour of your surrounding teeth — is then secured to the abutment.
A complete implant treatment plan should always include all three components plus the laboratory fabrication of the final crown. At ADHP, we operate an in-house dental laboratory, which gives our team direct control over the quality and turnaround of every restoration we place.
What Shapes Your Treatment Plan
No two treatment plans are identical, because no two patients present with the same anatomy, history, or goals. The factors we weigh when building your personalized plan include:
- The number of teeth missing, and how long they have been missing — bone resorption progresses over time and affects what preparatory work may be needed
- Bone density and volume at the intended implant site — where bone is insufficient, a bone grafting procedure can often address this before or at the time of implant placement
- Whether extractions are needed first, and how those affect the timeline and sequence of treatment
- The presence of active gum disease — periodontitis must be fully treated before an implant is placed to protect both the gum tissue and the long-term stability of the implant
- Whether conventional or zygomatic implants are indicated — zygomatic implants anchor in the cheekbone rather than the jaw, making them an option when jaw bone loss is severe
- Your choice of restoration material for the final crown
