How a Dental Implant Works

A dental implant is a three-part system:

The Titanium Post

The post is placed into the jawbone during a minor outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. Over the months that follow, living bone integrates directly with the titanium surface through osseointegration — the same biological process that bonds natural tooth roots to the jaw. The result is a stable, permanent anchor.

The Abutment

Once osseointegration is confirmed, the abutment is placed on top of the post. It is a precision-machined connector that provides the attachment point for the final crown.

The Crown

The visible tooth above the gum line. It is custom-fabricated in our in-house dental laboratory to match the shade and contour of your natural teeth. It is the only part you will ever see.

What Your Journey Looks Like

Every patient's path is a little different, but the stages are consistent:

Consultation: We take CBCT cone-beam 3D imaging, review your health history, and complete a clinical exam. You receive a written treatment plan before any procedure is scheduled.

Preparation (if needed): For some patients, preparatory work — bone grafting, extraction of failing teeth, or treatment of gum disease — comes first. We plan this carefully so the implant site is in the best possible condition for placement.

Placement: The implant post is placed in a single outpatient visit. Sedation is available for patients who prefer a more comfortable experience.

Healing: Osseointegration takes several months. We monitor this at regular follow-up appointments and communicate what we see at each one.

Final restoration: When integration is confirmed, the abutment and custom crown are placed. We verify the fit and your bite before you leave.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Most adults in good general health qualify for dental implants. The most important requirements are adequate bone volume at the implant site and healthy gum tissue. Conditions that require management before placement include active gum disease, uncontrolled diabetes, and active smoking. Bone deficits can often be corrected through grafting. We evaluate all of this at your consultation and discuss any concerns candidly.

Daily Care for Your Implant

Dental implants need the same daily attention as natural teeth — brush twice a day, clean around the implant with floss or a water flosser, and attend regular professional cleanings. With this routine, implants are designed to last a lifetime. We provide detailed aftercare guidance at the time of placement.

Insurance and Financing

We accept most major dental insurance plans and file claims on your behalf. Many plans contribute to implant-related procedures. Third-party financing is also available for eligible patients.
